Contact Lenses

At the Eye Shop we provide a comprehensive and professional contact lenses fitting service. Prices will vary from £40 depending on the complexity of your prescription and number of visits required.

We fit an extensive range of contact lenses from the World’s leading manufacturers (see images below) using the latest technology and materials making contact lenses safe, comfortable and easy to wear. The range features different lens types to suit most prescriptions i.e. Short-sight, long-sight, astigmatism and presbyopia.

A valid spectacle prescription will be required for a contact lens fitting and we recommend that you have a back up pair of spectacles.

At your first visit our experienced and fully qualified optometrist will carefully measure and examine your eyes for any contra-indications to contact lens wear. Common disorders like blepharitis, ocular allergies, conjunctivitis, inflammation or dry eyes might require treatment prior to the fitting. Your optometrist will advise you accordingly.

During your contact lens consultation you will be able to discuss whether you would benefit most from monthly disposable, daily disposable, extended wear or continuous wear lenses. Your optician will recommend the right type of contact lens based on your suitability, your visual requirements and personal preference.

At your second visit trial contact lenses ordered to your specific prescription will be inserted and the fitting, comfort and vision will be accessed to ensure that the contact lenses are suitable for you. We will show you how to insert and remove your contact lenses and advise you on hygiene and maintenence of your contact lenses. Wearing schedules will be discussed and a follow up appointment will be booked where you will come in wearing your contact lenses. You will be required to bring your spectacles and contact lens case.

Aftercare Appointments

You will be required to come in wearing your contact lenses. The optometrist will examine your eyes first with your contact lenses in your eyes and then on removal of your contact lenses. A fluorescent dye will be used to check for any adverse effects and in order that your contact lenses do not take up the dye we recommend you leave the contact lenses out for at least half an hour.

The suitability of your contact lenses will then need to be re-assessed a few months later to ensure that prolonged wearing is not having any adverse effects. Often these adverse effects are picked up before you might show any signs or symptoms so it is very essential that these appointments are kept. Your eyes will be closely monitored to prevent any long terms effects of contact lens wear over the rest of the year.

You can pay for your lenses by monthly direct debit to spread the cost or you can just buy lenses in- store as and when you need them. We also offer a range of eye-care packages in store according to the type of lenses you wear. Please note that it is only when your eye-care professional is satisfied that your handling and wearing schedules are not having any adverse effects on your eyes that we can provide you with your prescription typically at three month stage. The validity of your prescription may vary according to the health of your eye.
